No Noisy Fans and Operates Without Power

Without a fan there is no need for power. That means your fire will operate during any power outage. Furthermore, it simplifies installation.

Direct Vent Fires - The Healthy Choice

Direct vent gas fires (also called closed combustion or balanced flue fires) are now the preferred alternative to conventional flue systems. With a direct vent system, combustion air is drawn from outside the house, rather than from the room the fire is located in.

The advantages of this system are that fire performance is often better (modern buildings are much more airtight than old ones and this can result in the fire ‘starving’ of oxygen) the fire is unaffected by house ventilation systems which alter room pressures eg dehumidifying systems common in many houses in NZ the fire is more efficient because warm air is not taken from the room and sent up the exhaust (the fire takes cool air from outside the house instead). Furthermore, the fire does not draw cool air into the room to replace the warm air used the flue does not need to go up through the room ceiling and roof, and is commonly put through the wall immediately behind the fire.

Both conventional flue and direct vent flue systems are of course also healthier than open gas fires as they release all combustion by-products outside the house.
